7 Easy Recipes to Make Your Homemade Products

On February 16, 2018, a study conducted by the American Respiratory Society sought to verify the harmful effects of household products on health. And much more serious than what scientists believed until then!

The study lasted 20 years and included data from 6,235 European participants. The conclusions are surprising: women who take care of the family breathe worse over the years.

The picture is particularly bleak for domestic workers. Among them, the rate of lung decline is comparable to that of a smoker who smokes 20 packs of cigarettes a year.

The best way to avoid poisoning your lungs is to make your own household products.

The problem is that we often get discouraged quickly when it comes to making cleaning products. But rest assured, there are easy and inexpensive recipes to make your own washing powder, dishwashing liquid, floor cleaner, etc.

Clean and fragrant clothes

Nothing could be easier than making your own washing powder. All you need is some organic soap flakes that you can find on the internet or on sale at organic stores. You can replace them with an organic Marseille soap that you reduce to a powder using a cheese grater. Then you just need:

  • Place the soap pieces in a bowl
  • Add 1 tablespoon of baking soda
  • Scent with 20 drops of essential oil

And that’s it, it’s ready, all you have to do is pour the mixture into your washing machine.

Make your own products, why not, but don’t sacrifice the softness of your clothes! Fortunately, natural recipes also exist. For this you need 250 ml lemon verbena hydrosol. You can make it from essential oils:

  • Heat 250 ml of water in a pot.
  • Place 10 drops of exotic verbena essential oil on a filter paper.
  • Pour water and drip gently. The liquid obtained in this way should give a pleasant aroma.
  • Then pour the hydrosol into a salad bowl.
  • To make it a soft one, all you need to do is:
  • Add 150ml white alcohol vinegar which you mix well.
  • Add 1 tablespoon of sodium bicarbonate. Wait until everything stops foaming.
  • Add 20 drops of lemon verbena essential oil.
  • Store the mixture in a bottle.
  • Your product is ready to use! Add 50 ml to each wash. If the scent of an essential oil doesn’t suit you, don’t hesitate to choose another one.
Clean the floor

Clean and shiny floors

Now that your laundry is clean, you need to do the same with your home. Here’s a recipe for a floor cleaning product that really respects the environment and your health. All you need is white vinegar and, if desired, an essential oil of your choice (lemon or tea tree will work just fine).

  • Fill a bucket with very hot water
  • Pour the equivalent of one glass of white vinegar into the bucket
  • If you want, add a few drops of lemon essential oil then dip your mop in the preparation and scrub your floor well. Also remember that the hotter the water, the more effective the mixture will be and the faster it will dry.

Shiny Dishes For a dishwashing product that effectively washes and degreases your plates, mix 30cl of liquid black soap and 1 teaspoon of soda crystals (be careful not to confuse it with baking soda) in 1 liter of water. Add 30 drops of essential oil of tea tree (for its antibacterial effect) or grapefruit (for flavor). This very liquid dishwashing product is best used with a spray bottle. If you prefer a “leathering” recipe, replace the black soap with Marseille soap or Aleppo soap.

Which oil to choose?

The choice of essential oil depends a lot on personal taste. However, depending on your preference, here are some tips:

  • Lavender reminds of the south and clean
  • Ylang-ylang for more fruity and strong aroma
  • Lemon or tangerine symbolizes freshness
  • Tea tree for perfect sterilization

If I’m in a hurry

Here’s a faster alternative: Put a few drops of lemon essential oil in white vinegar. And that’s it: your fabric softener is ready.

A tip for cleaning your windows

To clean your windows, you don’t need chemicals. All you need to do is scrub with a sponge and warm water. Then pass a squeegee. And if your windows are very dirty, add a little white vinegar to your hot water.

And for the dishwasher?

All you need to do is mix 60 grams of soda crystals, 60 grams of citric acid and 40 grams of sodium cocoa sulfate in a bottle. Then put 1 teaspoon in your dishwasher tray for each wash. Caution: Avoid inhaling sodium cocoa sulfate vapors which may irritate the respiratory tract. For added safety, wear a mask
