Italian tennis star Matteo Berrettini says pineapple has absolutely no place on pizza, adding that he feels sick when he sees someone using pineapple as a pizza topping.
The Miami Open asked several ATP and WTA players if pineapple belongs on pizza. Berretini, the 2021 Wimbledon finalist, had the best answer. “Oh my God, look at my heart!
He hurts me. No,” Berretini said.
Corey Gauff, who reached her first Grand Slam final at Roland Garros, has revealed she doesn’t like the idea of putting pineapple on pizza, but her views have changed.
“I was against pineapple on pizza and then, yeah, now I think it’s the place,” Gauff revealed.
Berretini has struggled this summer on hard courts.
Along with Novak Djokovic, Berretini was considered the heavy favorite for the Wimbledon title.
Then, on the day of the first-round match, Berettini tested positive for COVID-19. Being forced to withdraw from Wimbledon hurt Berretini a lot and he didn’t hide his disappointment in an Instagram post he sent out that day.
Since then, Berretini has played in two tournaments – each time losing in the first round. After suffering a surprise loss to Pablo Carreno Busta in the first round in Montreal, Berretini suffered another surprise loss last week when he lost to Francis Tiafoe in the first round in Cincinnati.
After the match, Tiafoe said that beating a quality player like Berretini was something he needed. “I really needed this. I know it’s a first round game.
But everyone knew why I needed it against a quality player, so it was important. I know I’ve beaten a lot of these guys, but that hasn’t happened lately.
This is one of the things you have to do to overcome the obstacle. But I’m happy to have another chance to play again,” Tiafoe said. It remains to be seen how Berettini will do at the US Open.
