We couldn’t start our selection without mentioning some addresses in Brussels that still feature in the top 50 best pizzerias in Europe outside of Italy. Although these addresses have long made a name for themselves, other lesser-known pizzerias in Belgium are also worth a visit. Discover our non-exhaustive selection (because, unfortunately, we have not yet had time to test all the pizzerias in our flat country).
In the video, the best pizzerias in France:
Pizza La Piola
Located in Saint-Josse, this well-known pizzeria in Brussels has also been making a name for itself internationally in recent years. It ranks eighth in the ranking of the 50 best pizzerias in Europe, published every year by 50toppizza. What makes these pizzas special? They are cooked on wood and consist of a thick and crispy crust to perfection. The dough is made from organic flour and all the ingredients come from Italy. The menu changes with the seasons, but there is a large selection of pizzas on the menu.
The address: Place Saint-Josse 8, 1210 Saint-Josse-ten-Noode. More information here.
Pizza at Bella Gourmet
It is not surprising that in the second position we note Pizza è Bella Gourmet, another establishment nailed at the twelfth place in the ranking of the best pizzerias in Europe. Located not far from Leopold Park at the edge of Etterbeek, this pizzeria is the more modern version of its older sister, Pizza è Bella, which is located in the Sablon district, a must-see in the capital and a favorite of Prince Laurent and his family. Here they serve traditional Neapolitan pizzas, but also more unusual recipes that include all kinds of ingredients you’d probably never think of. Delight!
The address : Rue Froissart 43, 1040 Etterbeek. More information here.
Located near the Parvis de la Trinité in Ixelles, this pizzeria, which defines itself above all as a casa popolare, i.e. a typical and authentic address in Italy, it is actually the former Tonton Marcel, a famous natural wine merchant in rue du Bailli, where you can meet many famous people, starting with the actor Jeremy Rainier at that time. In 2019, the address was transformed and received the name Marcella. The decor changes completely and an imposing copper furnace sits in the middle of the room. The specialty of the pizzas? The dough is light, crispy and soft at the same time. Neapolitan pizzas as we love them in a nutshell. Remaining discreet for a long time, this address combines the modern side of the recently opened restaurants we love in the capital, while maintaining an authentic menu. Acclaimed by critics, the address received this year’s 32nd place in the ranking of the best pizzerias in Europe.
The address: Rue du Bailli, 106 in 1050 Ixelles. More information here.
Pizzeria 77 in Waterloo
An address that is less well-known than the previous ones and that still does not benefit from any particular distinction, apart from the loyalty of its customers, who do not stop praising it. And there is a reason why Pizzeria 77 was born from the great passion for pizza of the Putsu family. Romolo and Paola, the Belgian-Italian couple at the helm of this restaurant, are committed to offering authentic Neapolitan pizza, the real thing. And whoever says Neapolitan pizza necessarily means cooking over a wood fire, which gives the dough that unique flavor that all Italians (and others) love. On the menu, pizzas with a tomato base or bianche pizzas and the house specialty? The Waterloo pizza, made with truffle cream, mozzarella, arugula, truffle oil, burrata and truffle shavings.
The address: Chaussée de Bruxelles, 77, 1410 Waterloo. More information here.
Inn Pizzeria in Perwez
Halfway between Brussels and Namur, another unexpected address has mastered the art of pizza. Do you manage this restaurant? Leticia and Carlo, who no longer counts his years of experience as a pizza maker in Sicily and in Namur, before opening this establishment in March 2008. Since then, the address has won all kinds of awards in various international competitions: in 2018, 2019. and 2021, for example, it received the first place in the world for the best “Pizza Bianca”, and in 2015 and 2017 Carlo himself became the best pizza producer in Belgium. More than 80 different pizzas on the menu at more than reasonable prices. So for a no-fuss address where to feast, this is where to go!
The address : Rue de la Station 72, 1360 Perwez. More information here.
Nonna Rita in Charleroi
Point Charleroi this time at Nonna Rita. Family tradition obliges, here the pizza recipe has remained unchanged for more than 60 years and this gives rise to the real pizzas that are tried in Italy. In addition to the tempting pizza menu, the pasta is also worth trying: because La Nonna still makes them all by hand. The decor also reflects Italy and its warm atmosphere. Add to that a stick of small onions and there you have it! The only problem? The wait can sometimes be very long, but what you want is the price you have to pay for 100% homemade Italian cuisine!
The address : Rue de France, 29, 6000 Charleroi. More information here.
